Lovely views from the top if the hill;shame there was a few plastic bottles lying around(lazy tourists).Very steep steps and a little slippy but worth the climb overall.

Great for a bracing walk, it's the regions #1 landmark!

If you like a challengeing walk with nice views. Why not visit and also have a walk around Herrington park and finish with a coffee at the cafe or head over to penshaw tea rooms.

If you like barking dogs running around and dodging the "droppings" this is the place for you.

Plenty of free road parking. No entry charge. Fairly stiff climb up gravel steps. There is an alternative gentle slope route, but it might not suit wheelchairs with narrow tyres. Good view of Nissan UK plant and surrounding area. It's a windy and cold spot in winter! It's worth a detour if you are passing.

Very useful landmark to let people know they're almost home, and good for if you want to get exercise by walking/running up the steps up the hill. Was always the symbol of the local area. Just wish the guy who wanted to recreate a Hellenistic aesthetic actually committed to the bit and didn't cheap out with local materials and the exclusion of a roof. But what can ya do.

Must see if you live locally. Really good views from here and the monument itself is quite interesting. Lovely garden centre, tea rooms, butchers and bakers nearby
